Mountain Bike Florida
MTB FL?
Yes you heard it right...mountain bike Florida! Not only does Florida have mountain biking but FL has some of the best trails in the country! And what's really awesome is you can mountain bike Florida all year round. In fact, Alafia River State Park is open 365 days a year (open every holiday!).
Alafia River State Park is known for it's frequent changes in elevation. There's punchy hills, huge wood berms, smooth trails, techy trails, steep fast descents, jumps and drops of all sizes. Alafia has over 17 miles of mountain bike trails from mild two tracks to expert double black trails. There's a full time trail boss who is out all week maintaining and improving Alafia's mountain bike trails to keep the trails running fast and fun.
Alafia Park is a rare jewel because it was once a Phosphate Mine in the early to mid 1900's. Excavators dug deep trenches and stacked the dirt into tall steep jagged hills. The phosphate mine had 2 choices: they could reclaim the land and turn it back to an ecologically usable safe land or donate it to the government as is. Luckily they chose the later. The old mine transformed into an awesome mountain bike park that's covered in green tropical vegetation and animals galore; it's hard to not spot deer a deer on any given day. You can also see many tortoises, turtles, alligators, snakes, armadillos, rabbits and more. There's an adventure at Alafia waiting for you!
Other nearby mountain bike parks include Balm Boyette Scrub Preserve, Loyce E Harpe Park (Carter Park), Croom and Santos.
